Live audio/video streaming transmission from Waag Society in Amsterdam, in direct connection with Beirut and surrounding localities. The event was initiated by Streamtime, a web support campaign for Iraqi bloggers.
After one month of violence and carnage, this Global Web Jam brings together live interviews and conversations, video clips, cartoons and blog blurbs, soundscapes, DJs and VJs, a lively mix of information, art, protest, party and reflection. We feature the voices, images stories, reports and initiatives from Lebanon and beyond, with participation of activists, artists, bloggers, journalists, musicians and many others.
This is a call for an immediate end to the violence and destruction, in defiance of war, and in search for solidarity.

This Global Web Jam is an initiative of Jo van der Spek, Geert Lovink and Cecile Landman (from Streamtime), Nat Muller, Paul Keller and Denis Jaromil Rojo in Amsterdam; and Tarek Atoui and Rawya el-Chab in Beirut.

Das ist klingt sehr spannend und da werde ich morgen wohl mal die Leitung glühen lassen. Streamtime lohnt auch sonst einen genaueren Blick. Im Gegensatz zur deutschen Blogosphäre, die wenn sie nicht ganz im eigenen Saft schmort oder lieber Werbespielchen mitspielt, zum Konflikt im Nahen Osten außer allgemeinem Betroffenheitsblah nichts zu sagen weiß, wird hier ein sympathischer Ansatz gewählt. Außerdem habe ich das Gefühl, dass sich hier eine Ablehnung gegen die Kriegshandlungen formuliert, wo Kritik an einer Seite nicht zwangsläufig in eine Befürwortung der jeweils anderen Seite hinausläuft.
Nein, ich will kein Bestandteil sein. Aber ich bin es leider irgendwie, wenn dort mit deutschen Waffen geschossen wird, wenn deutsche Außenminister in den Verhandlungen mitmischen, wenn jede Kritik am israelischen Vorgehen Antisemitismus sein soll oder jede Kritik an der Hisbollah den Islam beleidigt. Es hat sehr wohl was mit mir zu tun, wenn dort Menschen leiden oder gar sterben, obwohl ihnen Religionen und Staaten relativ egal sind, weil sie einfach "nur" in Frieden und womöglich Freiheit leben wollen. Unabhängige Netzwerke, wie sie die obengenannte Aktion schaffen will, sind ein Schritt. Wohin auch immer.
